Picture Perfect for your big day!

Whether you have booked a make-up artist or decided to take on the challenge of doing your own make-up on your big day Claire Lowe, make-up and hair stylist is on hand to provide you with some things to consider when planning and achieving your desired look.

What's your style? When you close your eyes and see yourself on your big day you probably see your gorgeous gown, your flowers and maybe your hair style but what about your make-up? Bridal make-up should reflect your overall look and not work against it. For example a black flick liner looks amazing with a 1950's style dress but not so much with a soft boho look.

Top tip: Research bridal looks with dresses similar to yours and take a look at the make-up style and colours; this should give you some inspiration!

Artist's Palette Consider your wedding colour scheme when planning your make up. Colours are either 'warm' or 'cool' in tone and mixing the two isn’t a good idea.

For example pastel pinks, blues and greens are all examples of cool colours therefore pairing them with a warm peach lip and golden eyes would create a clash. Equally a palette of warm reds, oranges or browns wouldn’t sit well with a cool grey eye or cool pink lip.

Top tip: Brides choosing an ivory colour scheme have the most choice with both warm and cool colours working equally well.

Photo friendly- This is one day where it is best to choose a foundation without an SPF. The combination of ingredients used in many foundations can cause a 'flashback' in photographs making your face look white and a different colour to your body.

Also bear in mind that all photographs take a little colour out of your skin so be prepared to wear a touch more if you usually go for a very natural look.

Top tip: If you need to wear sun protection because you will be outside on your big day choose a moisturiser with SPF instead.

Going the distance - Piling on moisturiser, primer then foundation is going to result in your make-up sliding off before your wedding breakfast! Allow each layer to fully absorb before applying the next. I always suggest applying two fine layers of a lighter foundation rather than one thick heavy duty one, this will ensure your skin will look natural and remain in place all day. Always apply a loose powder with a large puff and roll it across the skin and finish with a light spritz of finishing spray.

Top tip: Don't forget your eyes, apply a primer to your lids before eye make-up, this will also ensure the colour of any products used will be richer.
